Fahaka questions

Post by digitalbliss »

a LFS got in a batch of Fahakas, most of which are in great health, and are all about 2".
Now, knowing the size tanks and everything these fish need in the future, I'm debating on whether or not I could/should get one now.
I've got a 40g aquarium that is ready for fish right now, I'm trying to decide what to stock it with, and this could be it. I know fahakas need around 125g at full growth, etc.
My question is, for a grow-out tank, about how long would the 40g last with a possible fahaka in this tank(by himself only of course) to allow myself time to purchase, cycle and do everything for his permanent tank later?
My purchase is definately depending on opinions thrown in here. If I don't get the Fahaka, I think I may do a SA Species tank. I'd love to have a fahaka if at all possible though.

I keep my 5" Fahaka in a 42 gallon.
No problem.

Miine stayed in a 55 till it was 7" & then moved into his 125. Took <2 years.

Mine grew pretty fast (the fastest growth I've seen with puffers), but I did move them from QT direct to big tanks (120 or divided 180)

Thanks for the replies. I've actually decided to make the tank a SA Species tank for reasons involving not yet being in a permenant residence, and expecting a little one in the next month/month and a half.
So, next question, about how many SAs are safe for a 40g? I was thinking with the layout and planned planting, 5 or 6ish tops.

I would not go over 3 or 4 myself, unless you are operating a sump to increase the total water volume substantially.
