Crazy Fahaka

Can anyone suggest something that will stop my crazy fahaka attacking the front of his tank, i know it's the reflection of himself he's attacking, but he's doing it with so much force - ( he actually takes a run up at the blummin glass), I'm worried he's gonna damage his lips or teeth, and it ain't just now and again he does it, it's blummin constant, you'd think they'd bloody learn after the first 200 times eah lol.
Please can someone help.

lol, that's a new one for me... You sure have an ill tempered Fahaka... Unless someone has some better suggestions, if you haven't had him too long, I'd return him for another fahaka.

Thats wild though, you have one mean fahaka... Put your finger in the tank, see what he does, lmao! (jk, DON'T DO IT!)

I've had him for quite a while now and wouldn't swap him or get rid of him for anything. He's got so much personality it's unreal. Just wish he'd loose the attitude lol.

Is the tank big enough for him? I have heard of them breaking thru the glass. How thick is it?

Well i know you are gonna say that he needs a new tank, but that is something that i am working on,(Finances and all that), he's in a 60 gallon tank at the minute.

Are you for real, the glass is about 10mm thick, that wouldn't be good if he broke that you know lol.

He ain't aggressive with me,well just the once lol, i root around his tank sometimes when cleaning it and he usually just swims to the other end of the tank, and i feed him prawns by hand which is quite cool, though i never let the prawn get too small before i let go lol.

Maybe until you can figure out how to upgrade to a larger & thicker paned tank you could try minimizing the reflection your puff sees in the tank?

Try keeping the tank light(s) off and keep a light on in the room and hopefully that will minimize the reflection. Though, if your tank is planted that would kill of the plants... If that's the case maybe you could find a safe, non-reflective waterproof material to stick inside the tank against the pane he keeps ramming into until you figure out a solution. Just some ideas, keep us posted!

How big is he right now?

I would just take out a loan and buy him a more appropriate home.

He/she's about 13 inches long now, and if i had my choice I'd gladly take out a loan and go and buy him a new tank, but with a missus and six kids to support as well mate, lol, i think my missus would go absolutely berserk if i went n spent Â£300 - Â£400 on a fish tank at the minute lol.
But believe me it is in hand, just gonna take a little time.

And anyways do you really think that getting him, a bigger tank will stop him attacking a reflection, wouldn't he get reflections in a bigger tank as well, and have a bigger run up to hit it harder.

GOD FORBID LOL

Since OraLacertas posting, i decided after he attacked the glass again to switch the light off, and guess what, he's stopped beating himself up lol, but I'm gonna have to think of a long term solution though, as i can't keep him in the dark on a permanent basis.

13" is a ton of puffer for a 60 gallon tank! I'm sure he'd seem a lot more content in a bigger tank...but if it can't be done now, it can't be done.

Gonna take a little longer as well Chopper if they keep putting all our fuel bills up, its getting ridiculous at the moment.

Glad he's stopped attacking the glass though.

Glad that worked temporarily, but I do think the best solution will be a bigger tank. The stress of being cramped in such small territory probably contributed to his behavior. It's a bummer, I know what it's like not being able to upgrade for a beloved fish

Maybe for now you can try to keep the lights off for part of the day so he's not ramming all day.

Well i was thinking exactly the same thing p/punk, i was actually thinking of trying to buy some flexible stem lights that i could put on the outside of the tank, as the light at the minute is built into the top cover.

Thanks for all your help folks - I'll plod along and try a few different things until i get something that works.

But it's also nice to know , that I've got one of the most aggressive MOTHER FAHAKAS known to man lmao - little bugger lol.
