I have several DP's who I've had around half a year, who have been fed a consistant diet of Bloodworms (they won't touch anything else). I am extremely allergic to bloodworms, and now that my GSP is eating mysis and white mosquito larvae, I think I should try to wean the DP's off of bloodworms... no more gloves, no more worrying about my eye swelling shut for days (which has happened several times)... I've tried feeding them white mosquito larvae, figuring it's the closest to bloodworms, and some of them nip at it but don't seem to swallow it and most of them won't touch it.
Any suggestions of how to go about getting them off of bloodworms? I know there are a plethora of food choices, but are there maybe some in particular that resemble bloodworms, in look or taste, that you could suggest?

I found it helps if you jiggle the food in front of them. I was able to get my DP to start taking chopped up pieces of krill by doing that. At first she'd look at it and ignore it, but after jiggling it she would chase it and attack it and eventually see it as food all the time.
Re: bloodworms and allergic reactions. I once fed some bloodworms and didn't think I touched them at all. I left the house and was driving someplace when I touched my eye lightly. About 2 minutes later my eye was so itchy I wanted to kill myself. When I got to where I was going (luckly safely) my eye was swollen, red, dripping, and still itchy. I flushed it out for about 10 minutes before it stopped being itchy. It stayed swollen and sore for days afterwards. I'm extremely careful now.
