Get yourself some PVC elbows or pipes, which ever shapes and sizes you would like. Smear silicone over the pipe and cover it with the gravel of your choice, easiest to do the peices in sections so the silcone doesn't dry out. Let it dry and thats about all... I'm sure this has been done before, especially if I could come up with the idea, but thought I'd share it since there was nothing of the sort posted in the DIY section. I have also done this with ceramic pots. The piece in the picture is a T shaped PVC elbow. I probably should have taken a picture before it was put in the tank.

yeah i like that. does it make a difference if you use larger or smaller sizes of gravel ?

Not sure. I've only used that size cause I have a lot of it left over. I think larger would be fine, you just may need a thicker coat of silicone.

I think it would look great in sand, because the gravel would stick out a lot more being surrounded by sand... unless you meant using sand on the pipes..which I'm sure is possible.

I've seen them done with sand and various types of gravel. They look quite nice.

I think I might try that with sand. Maybe mix some silicone with sand in a bowl then try and mold it? I know it'd take a while to dry, but when It's finished, put it in, throw some real sand on top and it might look ok!

I'll try it out in the future and let you all know. Unless someone wants to try it before me. I would now, but haven't got the money for that kinda extra ATM.

I don't think mixing the sand and silicone would work. Try smearing the silicone all over what you're using, then dunk it in a bucket of sand. That should work.

LOL, I have so much, I've started using it for landfill to fill where I had a turtle pond in the backyard.

Make sure it doesn't contain antibacterials as many home improvement types do.
