ANYWAYS. I just wanted to update how things have been going with my Green Spotted Puffer, Penguin. My brother gave her to me as a Christmas Present last year, that I could bring to MSU with me - that's about the time I found the original puffer forum and learned that they indeed we brackish puffers. I also learned that I cant use the 'noniodized salt'. Well, we figured as long as we had the salt, why not setup some reef tanks along the way. More on that later.
Anyways, slowly over 2-3 months she was acclimated to brackish and high end brackish. I got frustrated with the inability of plants to survive in there, and didnt have the funds to purchase 'brackish plants' online, so I did the next best thing. FULL SALT AHOY!
Keep in mind, up to this point, she'd grown nearly an inch, and was just over 3 inches, crammed in a small 10gal tank with an Emperor 400 biowheel filter. She had 15lbs of live rock and about 10lbs of live sand from our other systems. You guys got me to salt water, and I love it.
Well, I could see that she was getting cramped. I knew she needed an upgrade, it was just a matter of working things out. My brother's archer fish had a 35gal aquarium, and he just started acclimating them to brackish when they found a small hole (he taped EVERYTHING, I dont know how they did it) and jumped. Both, nearly at the same time. Anyways, opportunity came a knockin, and we converted the water to full marine. After cycling the tank local reefer (coral reef, not the other kind) had some things he needed to get rid of because his wife was making him break down his three tanks due to job changes and her lack of interest in caring for them. In that, I got two yellow tailed chromis or damsels, he wasnt sure. Black with yellow lyre tail fins. Very pretty.
So now Penguin swims freely in the open waters of her new 35gal aquarium, which includes luxury 30lbs of live rock, a cozy sandbed, the added bonus of a skimmer, mechanical and biological filtration carried out by a whisper HOB filter, and a MaxiJet 600 for flow. She seems MUCH happier now that she can swim freely, and that she has tankmates. Actually she sort of ignores them, except during feeding when they try to steal her food, unsuccesfully I might add.

Penguin in her 10gal was much easier to photograph. Still a quick little bugger.

Dang she moves around a lot now. I cant seem to get a good picture except during feeding, and what self respecting fish likes being photographed while eating?
