IME they are very shy and timid creatures, only venturing out in the pitch black of night.
I found out to my cost that they are very territorial and have wide areas they protect. Anything that is within sight of that area IS picked off.
From the start I was going to just get two fig 8. and nothing else, but my local fishmonger can't get any at this moment, but he can get me some irrubesco, or so he say and I thought I'd get some Tigerbarbs to get some action/movement in the tank, the Tigers are good at cleaning up uneaten food as well.
But after reading about your bad experience Rocker, I think I'll stick to my original plan for now and just have the puffers in the tank.

*sigh* No puffers for me. My local fishmonger can't get me any Fig.8 or Irrubesco right now.
So I guess I'll just have to get some Tigerbarbs to go in my newly cycled tank and look at pictures of the beautiful puffers you guys have......and be envious

I am getting a puffer some day soon, I hope. It seems none of the big importers of tropical fish in Sweden don't prioritize puffers cos there isn't really a big market for them here, not yet anyway.

I have two, unfortintly they are males. When I bought them they we're supost to be a pair to mate, they we're bout 3/8 of an inch then, it was hard to tell!
My advise is to get them young and train them to be a part of the comunity.
It is possiable I've done it for 8 mounths now, (they're 3/4 of an inch now)
they live w/ GHOST SHRIMP!, A wiptail catfish, several male guppys, an outocinclus all in a 20 gal planted tank w/10 or more spiecies of plants.
I'm searching for a female or two cause I have a 45 gal long tank I want to put them in w/ plants ovcourse....
