Ceylon and Bumblebee Gobbie

Just wanted to know if Bumblebee Gobbies will work with my Ceylon Puffer?

I know that my Ceylon will need high end brackish conditions, but didn't know if gobbies will live in the same conditions?

Any ideas?

Not compatible. Your ceylon will need full SW as an adult, and BBG's are low brackish. You could try SW gobies when the SG is 1.020+

Just seems a bit empty in there. I don't think i will be able to find another Ceylon to replace the one that died. To cut a long story.. The LFS said they were Figure 8's!

Do you know of anything else that might work in there?

GSPs share similar conditions and have been known to get along if they are similar sizes and are provided a large enough environment with lots of territory and broken lines of sight.

how big is your tank btw?

GSPs need about 30g to themselves fully grown, and ceylons need about 40g to themselves. So a 75g would be the minimum imo.

I was wondering if there are other tank mates apart from other puffers?

My Ceylon is not aggressive in any way. He wont even touch the ghost shrimp I put in there!!

Maybe a few small SW gobies if your puffer really is tame, or a few chromis.

I have just started to add salt now, how long should it take to bring it up to SW? am i looking a 6 months or 18 months? 2 years?

Once i am at SW i guess i will need a skimmer?

well, 30 gallons for a GSP is a minimum, and ceylons can get a few inches bigger than gsps, so 40gallons seems more appropriate for the bigger fish.

If you went at 0.002 SG per week it would take 10 weeks to get to 1.020 SG, which is where full SW starts.

I'd probably go slower than that. 6 months sounds about right.

How big is the ceylon at the moment? If it is really small there is no rush to get to SW. Keep it low end brackish for a while and slowly increase. You'll save money on salt. (use the savings to save up for a good skimmer like a remora pro)

Skimmers are highly recommended in SW. They become most effective at or around 1.022 SG.

And the answer from that link is surprisingly not far off the mark. The only thing I'd disagree with is keeping F8s and GSP/ceylon together, because long term their optimal environment differs greatly, with F8s being low end brackish and GSPs/ceylons being high end brackish to full salt water. 2 puffers in a 40 is stretching it as well.

That is what i was getting at with the article. Figure 8's only require 1.050 (correct me if i am wrong) and GSP's and Ceylon's require full SW when adults.

I did raise it by 0.002. I will try and raise to 0.004 by the end of next week and take it a little slow. My Ceylon is currently 3 1/2 inches.
