How many males/females travancoricus and/or irrubesco ?

Hello everybody!

I'm a new member and I'm french so please excuse me if you can't understand correctly what I want to say...

I've got a 96 Liters tank (I don't know how many gallons it is).
The size is standard : 80 X 30 X 40
It will be heavily planted with dwarf anubias and others (I'm hesitating).

I would like to have few DPs (1 male and 2 females), or/and 2 irrubesco, but i don't know if there are ratios to respect (like african cichlids for example) to prevent from behavior problems. Can somebody help me?

Is my tank large enough for all these puffers?

Welcome. That is about 24 gallons US. You could have 2 irrubescos OR a max of 8 DPs, but not really both. Irrubescos are 10 gallons each, DPs are 3 gallons each.

Personally, I'd go with 2 irrubesco. But that's just me.

Your tank is 25 US gallons. You can house up to 8 DP's in there.

So travancoricus + irrubeso would be to much for my tank.
I think the same but I asked this question because I have noticed people often keep puffers in small tanks (under 30g). Is it due to puffer specific behavior ?

How about the ratios (I don't know if it is the same word in english-it means number of females for a male)?

For example, if I have 5 DPs (because irrubesco are hard to find near to Paris), can I have more than one male or is it necessary to keep 1 male for 3/4 females?

PS: this forum about puffers is unusual but very interesting!

yes ratio is the right word!

If you are going to have more than one gender, much fewer males is best, yes.

Yes, you can keep some puffers in tanks smaller than 30 gallons, but it depends on the species, and also on their personalities. They are very much individuals.

Some freshwater puffers that can be kept in smaller are DPs (3 gallons each), irrubescos and lortetis (10 gallons each), modestus and SAPs (15 gallons each), common (20 gallons each), Congos, suvattiis, baileyis (30 gallons each).

Then there are brackish ones like the F8 which needs 15 gallons each, and smaller saltwater puffers like ceylon and GSPs with 30 gallons each.
