Randon idea (in progress)
Randon idea (in progress)
I might be getting a 30g soon and I was thinking, I'm gonna be getting two or three irrubesco's (maybe one male and two females). But if that doesn't work, I had a odd idea to switch it to brackish and try an F8 or two. They look cool and I'm sure they're not TOO hard to take care of. Any opinions? How hard is maintaining a brackish tank and how would I deal with keeping the SG up when I do water changes. Again, it's just a thought.

Brackish certainly is a jump in complexity from fresh water.
There was a recent post with pictures on how to do a brackish water change. shouldn't be too hard to find.
Basically, when you make your replcement water, you simply add your marine mix to it, and test it with a refractometer and match the SG by adding more salt or fresh water.

Getting a refractometer isn't a bad idea. Its worth the extra buck to get a meter that is more accurate and doesn't die on you.
IMO BW tanks are easy as pie but then again I think the same thing about FO SW.

i have a ten gallon Rubbermaid container that I prep my water in. I started doing it when I had a couple of F8s. Mixed to the target SG and brought to an appropriate temp before adding it had a fifty watt heater in it. For a 30g you wouldn't need too big of a container my 10g is plenty big enough and only cost me 8 bucks.
Adventim, I was in Boston only a few days ago and I saw plenty of LFS that had snails.

Saw a few healthy puffs but over all its stuff that I've seen before. Nothing really intriguing or anything.

Also, should I get a refractometer when or if I switch to brackish?
Whats the point of a signature?!
