puffers with cichlids?

Are there any puffers that can be kept with cichlids? I am going to set up a 180 gallon for lake Tanganyika cichlids, and i love puffers so i was wondering if any puffers would get along with them?

puffers don't generally get along very well with anything for very long. Eventually something gets eaten. Just pretend puffers are like pirahnas. you wouldn't put a pirahna in with cichlids, and so you shouldn't with puffers.

Others will tell you that it depends on the personality of the fish, and this is true, but you have no way of learning their personality until it's too late. better safe than sorry imo.

Also, depending upon the Tanganyikans you're going to put in there, I'd worry about the health of most puffers.

Ever seen N. brichardi or N. multifasciatus attack in coordinated waves? I'll never forget walking downstairs near my multi tank, hearing these noticable clicks (sounded like gravel being thrown at a window), and looking into the tank to see the 1" and 1.5" multis had a 5 inch bristlenose pleco cornered and the sound was them attacking and biting the poor pleco...they were like tiny little wolves (there were 15 multis, but only 5 attacked while the others took turns guarding the shell bed).

The only cichlid that MIGHT work with a puffer is a Chromide. The rest are too aggressive and if they arn't then the puffer will pick on them.
