What kind of Salt?

Post by r1a2c3h4e5l6_s7 »

what kind of salt is the best for puffers? I have 1 puffer left but he's not doin so hot. I used to use aquarium salt, but I read that they like sea salt better so I started using that. Which is better?

The same marine salt used for SW aquariums. Please read the info on care & feeding of GSPs in the Library.

Well, I bought Sea Salt from the health food store because the pet store had nothing other than aquarium salt. They said that it is pure Sea Salt. Just what is "marine salt"? I did read the info on GSP's in the library but I don't recall my question being answered.

Your LFS will have the marine salt suitable for aquariums. It is available in different brand names such as Crystal
Sea ect.

Yes, you want to go to a store that carries saltwater fish and look for a marine salt such as Instant Ocean, not "aquarium salt".

The marine salt mix is synthetically made so that when you add it to water it will dissolve and form sea water. Sea salt which has been made through evapourating sea salt would have gone through various chemical changes due to the evapouration process and will not form proper sea water.

Tropic Marin is another good one...I think it's very concentrated, so works out quite cheap.
You'll also need a hydrometer, which measures how much salt is in your water, as yu'll need to monitor this carefully.
