Thinking of goin brackish

My 240L Fahaka tank has been running perfectly now for a few months no problems . Recently i have inherited some money and Got myself a new Rio 240L aquarium. It Has been set up with a crushed coral sand subrate. and ocean rocks. Its been empty and running for a month now and i beleive its fully cycled. Anyway more to the point. i have never had a brackish aquarium before, and have been researching but there are still some things im not too sure off. The tank bein 240 L (63.5g) im not sure how much aquarium salt to use and what kind for that matter and also how to apply it to the aquarium? also how long does it need to be set up as a brackish tank before i can introduce a F8 puffer? How many F8 can happily go in a aquarium this size?

Why do you 'believe' that? Have you cycled it, or not? What are the readings for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate now?

Not aquarium salt, marine mix. You have to measure the salt level with a refractometer (or a hydrometer, although I frown upon them), and you add it into the tank with water changes.

Check the salinity the lfs is keeping the f8 at (usually in freshwater), and cycle your tank at that salinity. Then, slowly raise the salinity no more than 0.002 per week with water changes.

How many F8 can happily go in a aquarium this size?

I think 4 or 5 would do nicely.

Have you used a product like bio-spira that contains living bacteria to 'seed' the tank with colonies of helpful bacteria? Or did you use fish? Or nothing at all?

You want marine salt. Marine salt has trace elements that aquarium salt does not. Also aquarium salt does not rise the SG (specific gravity) of your tank as much as marine salt.

You can either setup the tank as brackish and drip acclimate the figure 8(s) in. Or you can set it up as Lisa recomended and slowly bump them up.

I'd go with 5 if you don't plan on tank mates or 3 if you would like tank mates.

Thanks for the Replies. Aye im more than sure the tanks fully cycled amonia nitrate nitrites ph are all perfecto And also im aware My fahaka will need a new tank think he'll be fine for a few more months tho. Im not aware of this bio spiral buisness.. ill be making a trip to my lfs today and ask about it. Im not sure about this "drip method" seems new to me im sure its simple just needs some explaining..
You say salt is added to the tank during water changes. thats not directely to the tank is it? And do i just keep adding the salt until it reaches the desired Sg level.

No you do not add it directly to the aquarium. You must dissolve it in a bucket first. And it does take some effort to make it dissolve completely.

If you are going to keep F8's you'll need a SG of 1.005-1.008 which you'll reach in a few weeks time (by raising 1 or 2 points every week). That means you won't be needing too much salt. Of course you will need a refractometer to measure that.

I think you'll need about 3 -3,5 kilos of marine salt to reach that SG level in your aquarium.
