Post by Adventim »

Has anyone had any previous experience caring for a spotted Congo puffer? I'm a bit of a newbie but I've did my research and now I'm looking for experienced owners that can give me tips......thanks

The Congo River is puffer-rich. The lurker in two color forms and some shades between, T. miurus. The never-seen- anymore Spotted Congo looking like a small, spiny GSP. The reticulated puffer T. dubosi. The biggie - T. mbu.

But the Arrowhead and Palembang's are not Congo fish, they are SE Asian.

Are SURE the SCP is a discontinued trade fish....I would have to ask my LFS about any info on that problem. And the fact that it's a always FW puffer that resembles the GSP is the reason i was drawn to the puffer. I'll investigate but thanks so much for the help.

The true Spotted Congo has visible belly spines (few puffers show their spines when not inflated, no other FW puffer I have seen does this), where GSPs definitely do not. All fish sold in the USA which have been seen or heard from on the web for years have turned out to be GSPs.

They are reported at times from Europe, but I have seen no follow-up to confirm their ID.

George? Any comments on the UK/Europe?

To my knowledge the closeset I ever came to getting one was a few months ago when an ebay auction came up with two for offer in one sale. I had my doubts as the seller knew they were rare but offered the only two he had in one sale. The picture he used was certainly correct but 'borrowed' from another source and was not actually the fish to be sold. I was still tempted but I had the fear that they would be GSP on their arrival.
