Pond snails
Hey guys I'm new to this forum and I'm currently cycling my new tank for a DP. I'm thinking of breeding pond snails for a source of food but with 0 knowledge on pond snails, I have a couple questions.
1. Do they need fully cycled water?
2. Can I breed them in lunch box sized containers?
3. Do they need an airpump?
4. What do I feed them?
5. What plants do I need to provide them with?

You really don't need snails, mine eat live black worms but they also eat thawed bloodworms

It was my understanding that you needed to feed them snails to keep their beaks (teeth) in check. If you don't feed them hard foods like snails their teeth will over grow and cause them to either have difficulty eating or not be able to eat at all. Then they could starve to death unless you manually cut the teeth down yourself. And that's something that I hope I never have to do and it's something that I will do everything in my power to prevent. I myself started 3 snail breeding tanks as soon as I got it into my head that I going to buy myself a puffer. When I ordered my Fahaka Puffer I put him in one of my 55 gal breeder tanks bc his 224 gal forever home was still cycling. Within 5 days of being in there he had pretty much wiped out the snail colony in that tank. He was dropped into an all you can eat buffet and was picking those snails off left and right. I don't have just pond snails, I have a variety of snails bc some came in on live plants and I picked some up from my lfs as pest snails which they give away for free. I do not know bc I have not tried this yet but I was told that you can breed them in a 5 gal bucket with an air stone. But, I be really don't know why they need an air stone when they keep a lung like sack of air under their shell. When they come to the top of the water and turn their left side up they are more than likely extending a small tube out above the water taking in air to refill that lung sack.
