Well, the tendon one isn't always an urban legend, it happened in Milwaukee a few years back. Granted, the freaks who were doing it probably got the idea from the urban legend.
That mall has since closed down, bad neighborhood.
Anyone actually know a single person this has happened to? Friends of friends don't count - that's the basic beginning to nearly every urban legend. You simply cannot fit beneath most cars, and if you can fit down there, you can't get out from underneath easily or quickly. I saw the exact same thing reported as true here in Kansas City, and it was later proven to be just another false report of this urban legend (which is what I expected all along).
LOL.. well it was about 10 years ago and I remember it being on the news, about it actually happening to a shopper. They interviewed the person and all.. I suppose that doesn't count?
I never said the criminals around here were very smart either, I don't think they got away with the purchases or purse, but that's probably little consolation to the person who got their ankles slashed (honestly I don't think they got the tendons, just some nasty cuts from what I remember).
Myaj - that's interesting...maybe someone jumping onto the idea after reading of this very old urban legend.
Too bad it's so far in the past...I'd love to know if they were actually underneath the car and if so what type. I'm a thin guy, and I can't wedge myself beneath most cars - might fit beneath some of those SUVs or pick-ups, though, not that I'm planning to try.
Then again, some folks will do bizarre things to get on TV (be they the alleged victim or the perpetrator).
