Feeding a Marine Green Spotted Puffer (Breeding Food)

Hello all!

So my little puffer is in freshwater, and about 2in long.

He's eviscerated 8 ghost shrimps, and has eaten a few snails and some feeder stuff, like live bloodworms and frozen krill.

Once he becomes full marine, I need to feed him.

Is there anything marine-friendly I can breed in a 10 gallon tank to save $$$?

Maybe little crabs, or marine snails?

If I could put a lot of decorations/hiding spots in my saltwater tank to combine puffer tank with breeding/food tank, that'd be great. Give the live foodstuff many places to hide/move, and be safe.

Please help me out guys.

I read the link, and am still a bit troubled (so new to all of this).

Deliberately infested my tank with Malaysian Trumpet snails from Petco (gave them to me for free; got advice on that here, among so many other things).

Was told puffers like that, but that mystery snails are too hard for a <2in puffer to crunch. However they like ramshorn snails, supposedly, and I'd like to try breeding them, if not too difficult.

He eviscerated all twelve ghost shrimp. Planning to get more once tank is fully cycled (I can see the convenience in having a bigger tank with fewer things in it for easier cleaning).

ghost shrimp have very little nutrition as a food
Malaysian Trumpet Snails are too hard-shelled and may damage the puffers teeth/beaks
we keep giving you good info, including links to Puffer Forum articles regarding food, care, etc

The article doesn't really answer exactly which snails are good, because both links (Rocker's Snail Breeding Article, RTR's Snail Breeding Article) aren't working. I'm looking for specific snails that my puffer won't only eat, but I can also breed.

No names of any snails are given. I went to Petco today and the aquarium manager said Malaysian Trumpet Snail (pest snail) is a puffer's favorite. I've also been told that the mystery snails aren't good for puffer.

Which ones will the puffer eat but can also be bred with relative easy?

Absolutely it is.

Finding the right snails to breed and feed him would go towards that.

I do know he tore apart a large mystery snail.

He chiseled around the opening and then yanked out the snail, leaving just a hollow, floating shell.

Reading through the article you gave me on snail breeding, I can tell it's a darned good one.

Finally, I know now that the MTS (Malaysian Trumpet Snail?) is an invasive pest snail that is too hard for my GSP to eat.

Unfortunately, I have over 40 of them now.

Maybe I should buy a couple assassin snails...

I didn't know they had another set of teeth in the throat, like molars...

...do they grow constantly like the front ones, too?

Just crushed up a pond snail and three MTS with a forceps and plopped them in.

So far he hasn't gone for them. Maybe he's not hungry yet. His belly is slightly bulged, so he'll get hungry soon enough.

Need to see him actually show more hunger for snails. I know what he did to that apple snail. Should be able to eat these.
