DFP

I have a Dog faced puffer in our 55g now!! yeah! hes been there for about 3 days, How do you get them to be social? Our f8 and GSP are so talkative but the DFP is shy and RUNS (if a fish could run that is) he comes up to eat and thats it. He hides on and in everything!
any ideas? is this Normal?

I twill take some time for him to get comfy. Are there other fish in there? The tank is cyled? What are your plans for upgrading?

lisalisa is right on all counts. Your DF will come around eventually. Just keep his tank in a low-traffic area in the house if you have kids and teach them not to run up to the glass or tap on it. Give him/her time to settle in and then slowly start interacting with him at mealtimes, eventually spending more and more time with your puff. Tankmates could also be causing the behavior. Very bright lighting as well, although this may be necessary for any corals you may have. How big is he currently as the 55 will be way to small as an adult. I wouldn't put him in anything less than a 90 or preferably 120 as an adult.

Ok well in the last week Both Mufassa and Scar were doing well but now they seem to have the attack of copepods and are not happy with them.
Any one that has had a DFP for a while could you give me and idea of there behavior. Eithor mine are lazy and sleepy or somethings not right.
Scar and Mufassa have been tank mates for quite some time, I keep adding and changing up the tank but they just hang out. Are they night owles and im missing it by sleeping? Whats your lighting schedule? Maybe I just need to add more things to hunt for them?
Ideas?

I am not sure about DFP, but my Porch is very lazy but still a little baby. You only see him swim around when he is hungry and will investige on all the LR and sands..after you feed him.. he can sleep on anything he see. He can sleep with his head up again a filter or tank wall and the tail supporting on the LR. Just like a fish standing up pressing again a wall and sleep for few minutes. Dailly routine.. Eat, Sleep and flush the toilet..

My dog face puffer, when I fist got him was very shy, he would swim around just enough to eat then go hide in the back of the tank in rock caves, then about 2 weeks went by of me just sitting still in front of the tank everyonce in a while my dfp would come out of hiding and look at me when he did I would put a very small piece of food in the tank, he then started to realize that people looking at him in the tank was not going to eat him. Now when I come home from work, all the fish including my dfp is at the corner of the tank staring at the door waiting on me to get home. Even though I don't feed them for a couple of hours they stay out in front watching me for a change. Don't stress over the shy guy, he will pull out of his funk, first you will see him going around at night blowing puffs of water at the sand looking for food,if you have a dim light on the tank for their nightlight. I just went and got a under the counter light at walmart and hot glued it to the light fixture on my power compacts. They are very interesting fish, mine survived a powerhead accident so they a hardy and tough, his current tank mates are a butterflyfish, fox face lo, niger trigger, and a domino damsel all in a 220 with tons of lace rock. Mine loves caves, so if you don't have any built I would make at least one.

Do you ever clean the substrate in that tank? How many fish are actually in there (what species?). Please test for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates & pH & post all here. How often & how much water do you change?
