Sexing young dp's

I know that it's best to get two females to one male. I also heard that it is hard to tell the sex of the young pufferfish they sell at fish stores. So how do I get two females and one male? Thank you.

I read the wiki article on dwarf puffers which says that pufferfish choose their sex. Once one becomes male he secretes a hormome preventing the others from becoming male. Two can become male at the same time if they mature at the same time. Is this true? So i can just get one male and two juveniles. Is this a good idea, and will it harrass the smaller ones? Is it a better idea to get one and see what sex it turns out to be, then get the others?

I read on a post that you kept 3 in the same setup as mine. How did you get all three? You just got them one by one? What if two of them turn out to be male? Thank you.

Both times I have started out with 3, I wound up with only 1.

I see. I heard they like to keep their space so I'll get more plants and my tank is longer so thats ok? I think i will try it.

If your tank has a large footprint chances of peace is higher. I have kept pairs and trios in 90l (30") tanks. There will likely be the odd fight but I have rarely seen too much aggression in said tank

I've got 2 in a 10g, pretty well planted. Aggression is nonexistent. Had 3, lost one to an equipment-related accident :/. Mind you this setup has only been up for 6 months. My 10g is standard size also, which might be why I have less aggression problems, the longer/wider the better!
P.S. Nice cone-feeder PP, got one a while ago and love it! It's a hoot to see em rush to the cone in anticipation whenever I go near the tank lol!
