Your gsp's great-great-great-grandad?

Was reading a book from the dark ages (1969 ) and found some confusing articles -

There is a bit on a puffer they call Tetraodon Samphongsi. I'm quite certain the picture is of a young chubby GSP

The article reads says it comes from the fresh waters of thailand and that 'to date specimens kept in aquaria (sic) have not grown beyond 7cm'

Ive got a few old books about different fish and its interesting how much the hobby has changed. When you look back at those articles you kind of wonder, 'what were they thinking?'

Haha! Who's to say we've got it all correct now though? Seems to be an awful lot of unknowns. It's one of the things that makes the hobby more enjoyable though.

We likely still dont have it all figured out but it has come a long ways. I have an old book on Oscars that makes the comment that 'if you have a small tank (example 20g) that you can still have an Oscar but you will be limited to only having a little Oscar. You wont be able to see its full potential as an adult.' Basically it was during the time frame where a 55g tank was considered big and they pushed the whole thought of 'a fish will only get as big as its tank' philosophy. Now days the notion is that an Oscar needs a minimum of a 55g with some saying a 75g tank. So in that way definite improvement in their care and keeping, though many people still have them in too small a tank.
