My local fish store has this puffer identified as a Meakong puffer, or Tetradon cochinchinensis, all spelling as they have it. 2 different fish as far as I can tell.
However he is already over 4" long, however I've looked at all the freshwater puffers and the one he looks most like is the Pusulatus.
I wonder if one of you experts could give your opinion please, he seemed pretty lazy and not swimming around much too.
My Puffers: Puffers I have kept: T lineatus T miurus A modestus T biocellatus C valentini C coranata C papuan C lorteti DPs suvattii burrfish T niphobles
Yes, but new to puffers and struggled, that's how I came up with the Pustulatus:)
Would you agree it is definitely not a Mekong though? I was hoping I'd come across a miracle priced fish, lol, but I do think your guess is closer than mine having looked. Damn.

Not a Mekong (Monotrete suvattii ), and not a Tetraodon pustulatus. They have it marked as Monotrete Cochinchinensis but I dont see any distinct ocellus or eye spot. I would likely say its a Monotrete turgidus.

If it were a Tetraodon pustulatus marked for cheap, there would be a few of us willing to take a plane ride to your parts to buy it!
It is still a very nice puffer that would not require a huge tank.... hint, hint

I know I know but I've bitten the bullet and got a Fahaka and ordered a custom build tank for him which will be here in about 30 days. Actually going to have to lose an armchair from the living room, but he'll be worth it.
Awesome! A Fahaka is on my dream list but I have too many tanks as it is.
