Dwarf Puffers tank and substrate questions

Would a 10 gallon cycled, planted tank be okay for 1m/2f dwarf puffers? Are any cleaning tank mates okay with them, I saw someone mention crayfish? Reading through the library i saw some puffer species need sand for burrowing. Is therea preferred substrate for dwarfs?

No special types of substrate, I have Amanos with mine as cleanup and my puffs have never bothered them but according to other dp keepers, it's all up to each individual lol

Awesome! It looks like I'll be using Seachem Flourite clay to grow the plants. I'm hoping for it to be a heavily planted tank yet I haven't the slightest knowledge about plants. All this research is keeping me busy busy busy!

Yeah I think my substrate is a mix of fluorite, gravel, and sand

I have been using Flourite for a long time. Some is mixed up to 50% with other materials, some is just the straight product, especially in smaller tanks.

Have you guys found good results with it? The biggest deterrent for me is that when i rescape it will cloudy up the water and I tend to rescape all the time. I think thats going to be my problem with any substrate though.

To me at least, that is the nature of planted tanks. The only ones I run w/o having "fines" at replanting are my over-engineered reverse-flow under-gravel tanks (OE-RFUG), and those generally have little or no topographic molding. Those tend to dense planting with plant height variation rather than substrate depth variation. Almost all my long-term plant rearing/veggie filter tank are OE-RFUG. The initial set-up is more work, the upkeep fantastically easier. I don't mind taking time at set-up, hate it for routine upkeep.

I should have specified that I do not often do a total plant re'scaping. I tend only to do thinning and replanting of crowded clumps of particular plants as required, almost never total resets unless the tank is being shut down.
