Breeding Ramshorn Snails with Dwarf Puffers

Post by nonito »

Hi guys,

I have a 20 gallon tank with over 70 breeding Ramshorn snails, they vary in sizes. I was thinking of adding a few dwarf puffers, is this a good idea?

Thanks

Snailpocalypse err an Apocalypse for the snails. Best to get a separate tank. Predator and Prey should not be housed together. The Predator (the DP) will win.
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

Thanks, I guess I will have to move some of snails out to a 10 gallon tank to breed. Since I plan to use the 20 gallon tank for the puffers.

Yep, the big snails would most likely die a slow painful death D:

Dps just pick on big snails but will eat tiny babies

Really not a good idea I'm afraid
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Will the dp's over eat or will they just kill off the snails?

Very well housed fish, including DPs don't generally overeat as much as fish without adequate space, tank-scaping, current, and varied diets. With something around 2x the Pufferpedia minimum tank size suggestion, puffer care gets significantly easier and better. But that does not include having a snail nursery in their puffer tank. That, as already stated, is never a good or even a workable idea. Try not to shoot yourself in the foot.
