Explain? I feel so stupid asking but it would be great to finally get an answer lol... So those python things that hook up to your faucet for water changes... My understanding is that the new water goes directly into the tank... But isn't the chlorine in it bad for fish? Or have I just had the wrong idea of how they work? x.x

That's what I'm drinking while working late and perusing The Puffer Forum!

But yeah you have to treat the tank with a water conditioner and then add from the tap. Probably not the ideal way to do a water change but it saves people carrying buckets and because water conditioners are fast acting (I'm told) the risks are minimal. Apart from 5-a-side once a week carrying buckets is all I've got so I'll keep doing it until I start to struggle.

Yup you add the water treatment for your water to the tank as you start filling it up. Much better than lugging buckets

Totally fine to add the dechlor (preferably Prime) directly to the tank before filling. You add enough for the entire volume of the tank.

Quite a few of us (definitely including me) would have been out of the hobby years ago without The Python. It is IMHO the best single item developed for home hobby use. Carrying buckets is Dark Ages stuff.

And the wild part for me is that only in an emergency do I add water direct to the tank from the tap. Ordinarily I age and temper all my change water.. I Python out old water (with vacuuming the substrate as needed), then pump from the aging reservoirs to the tank(s).

Also just a trick I found that helped me.

In my shower I have something similar to this http://www.lowes.com/pd_65468-72981-144 ... facetInfo=

The hose on the shower head that goes to the hand held portion every manufacture I found out uses the same size connector.
So I bought an adapter to go from the python to the end of that hose. Now I drain everything down the shower drain instead of the sink.
Makes life so much easier on refills also.


Second Tip : I had a 210g so I did large water changes so this helped also
Take the end of the python off so you just have the hose heading to sink or shower.
Hook the hose up to the power head in the tank and let the power head move water faster.

Lol the bathrooms are at the other end of the house so I'd need like a 100+ foot hose the kitchen sink is only 10-15 feet away

Some of us are spoiled - I have a tank room with a laundry tub. Life is easy there. But I need a 70-foot hose to reach the most distant tank in the rest of the house. So I have two Pytons hanging on hose reels over that laundry tub.
