Hairy Puffer Puffing
Just caught him at it again, he is definitely puffing to remove bits of shell. Thought that might be a useful addition to the 'pedia, as it states they puff for no reason. The only time I've seen him puff (x3 in one month), is to expel bits of shell from his dinner. I suspect this is a regular thing, and I've simply caught him at it.

You should keep a camera next to the tank to get a shot of him. I would love to see him puffed

I have my phone with me, but the little wretch deflates as soon as I spy him.
I am quite convinced this is also on purpose.

Re: Hairy Puffer Puffing
While young and growing, most puffers puff more frequently, but yes, they do seem to want this to be private. Some of my puffer I have never seen puffed up, others I caught in the act with some frequency, but seldom to very rarely to never after they were mature. It is also possible they learned to spot me more easily and just hid their practice from me.

That's interesting, so it's not just Piggy being annoying. I have no idea how old he is, he's grown about an inch in the month I've had him, and is now about 3.5" long. He's very playful and interactive, and blimps about 'helping' when I'm cleaning his tank. He also likes to nuzzle, not biting, just seems to want to snuggle up close to my hand. It's rather sweet, when I come down to the kitchen first thing in the morning, he is definitely pleased to see me, he comes shooting up to the glass, and goes a lovely pale pink colour. He gets fed at 5.30pm, always, so he knows he's not going to be fed. I'm kidding myself that he loves his Mummy, and is simply overjoyed to see me.
When he deflates a load of shrimp shell shoots out with the water.

I'm laughing bitterly at myself now, 5 hours later he removed the very tip of my finger with surgical precision. Puffers are fickle to our eyes. To themselves I'm sure they don't see that.

It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
