GSP At Top Of Tank

Post by Rudy »

GSP is now constantly surfing the top of the tank, parameters are as follows; Ammonia-0 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-5.0 pH-8.0 SG-1.010 Temp- 78. I put two small cherry shrimp in the tank last night for him and he chased them all over but couldn't catch them. I turned on the tank light this morning and he refused to come to the front of the tank like he always does looking for food. I put a piece of krill right in front of him and he nibbled at it once and swam away. Now this evening he wont come to the front of the tank at all and is now constantly surfing the top of the tank with his mouth open in the surface film. Cant figure out what's going on as all parameters are good! Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe a lack of oxygen. Do you have an airstone?

For me, airstones are horrible in SW (or even BW). Small submersible pumps are far more controllable. Just be sure you don't create waves which can slosh over the tank rims.

I have an internal sponge filter hooked up to an air pump which puts out a fair amount of surface tension breaking bubbles along with the HOB filter, now he is struggling to swim allowing the current from the filter to push him into items in the tank. Belly is gray to slightly darker charcoal color, not sure what is going on

What are you using to test the water?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
