Marimo balls as a tank base?

Post by Stratters »

Piggy, the new Hairy Puffer will be out of quarantine, and coming home end of this week, and I was thinking, as Spud loved his little mossy mattress so much, and as he's not of the hiding in sand sort of puffer, do you think covering the base of the tank with marimo balls instead of a substrate would work?

Or is this an utterly daft idea?

I think it may get difficult to clean, as he poops in there. Plus, you want a substrate to hold onto nitrifying bacteria, although I guess it would grow on the moss...
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Hmmm, I think you're right. I am struggling with the planting, the plants don't seem to like the sand. Maybe I would be better with artificial ones, and a few moss balls?

Hey Stratters, I have 20 plastic plants for sale ranging from 4 inches to 22 inches. If you want I could sell them all to you for £10 and I'll pack them in the same box with the filter i'm sending you tomorrow.

What do you think? Let me know asap as I don't know the exact time the parcel is being picked up :)

Thanks Arny, but I have loads of plastic plants that came with the tanks. I just haven't been using them, because I wanted to have live plants.

Blast, why isn't it showing the whole pic? The splitting marimo is the one sitting on the bottom, RHS of the pic.
