Keeping nerite snails with gsp?
Keeping nerite snails with gsp?
Is it at all possible to keep nerite snails with a gsp in a very high brackish/marine aquarium? I read somewhere online that the gsp won't bother the nerite snails because their shells are too hard and they don't expose their head/foot when feeding or moving. Plus, nerites are supposed to be nocturnal, so they are only active when the puffer is asleep.

They do have some pretty good suction going for them but I wouldn't expect then to escape a larger GSP forever.

Yep I can attest to what PP said. I experimented and got 5 of them for my GSP FOWLR tank. I am down to 2. Don't spend too much on them as it can be an expensive puffer snack.

While a nerites foot doesn't stick out as much as a ramshorns they still do stick out a bit. My Nerite is active both day and night.

Isn't there a possible issue with their shells being so hard that the puffers can break their teeth off on them? I thought I remember something about that.. and if they break off under the gumline it can cause infection and problems eating, etc..

That may depend on the type or species of nerite used. Nerites are a bit like long-arm shrimps, there are multiple species available in the hobby. Some are generally SW, others are FW other than for breeding. Their shells can be quite different between the species, so may be more or less crushable than others.
