So a friend of mind likes Dexter my Fahaka. Knows all the issues I have had with him.
He is interested in getting roughly a 200g tank and buying him from me.
Not sure I am OK with this yet but got me thinking about going salt water and getting a porcupine puffer & or a spotted puffer.

So the question becomes what would I need realistically if I wanted to swap to saltwater.
Not doing corals

I have a 210g tank
FX5 plenty of lighting,.

Hey matey, you will need a good skimmer and lots of live rock. You will not need your fx5 as external filters generate alot of nitrates in sw tanks.

So sell him the FX5 which would instantly cycle his tank.

Buy a sump with a built in Skimmer

Not sure I want to do Live rock.
Or do I have to do live rock because of the puffers?

Do lots & lots of research about how filtration for SW works. It's mostly biological, which is by using live rock & lots of flow around it. The skimmer/refugium will take out the rest. Your best bet is to get a drilled tank with built in overflow.

Life would be simpler and cheaper if we could handle BW and FW as well as we do with SW these days. Initial set-up is expensive but operating costs are much lower.
