Sorry about the crummy cell phone pics. We just got these puffers from India and have no idea what they are. They were sold to us as pure freshwater and a new species that "no one else has". Can anyone help?

C. patoca. Don't get confused by what the net shows you when you search for this name.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Well, that makes it clear...er...?
I had found a milk spot picture that looked like these guys, but so many others didn't that I was concerned about mislabeled images.
These threads do a good job of clarifying that, thank you!
Though this may be a problem as we're only equipped to handle freshwater fish...
Again, thank you.

You're welcome. Taxonomists definitely need to take care of those spotted Chelonodon species.

Re: Help! Puffer ID...
They have mis sold you the fish, if you wish to stick to f/w return it and demand a refund. It's not fair on you or the fish if you are not equipped to look after it
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
Re: Help! Puffer ID...
yeah... I'd be like eff yeah take that thing back cept I'm not technically inquiring as a consumer but rather as a wholesale importer... so it was the SE Asia exporter who made the false claim and shipping alone probably... is not worth demanding a return/refund. We'd be better off salting them up.
