Hi everyone just come out of my love affair with marine fish sps etc!
And am currently cycling a tank ready for a green spotted puffer any advice I can get would be great .
Iam an experienced fish keeper marine / koi etc but puffers are new ,so your help would be spprecistedm

Welcome to the forum. Gsp require a minimum of 30g each. But bigger is better. A high brackish or marine tank is needed. Where abouts in the uk are you from?

I probably have the worst grammar and spelling on this forum lol, did not spot any mistakes. You are looking for a smaller variety of puffer? What size tank are you preparing? What type of water were you considering?

Hi I'm currently cycling a 70 ltr tank but am realising that its probably going to be to small very quickly .
Brackish or fresh I don't mind starting off fresh then merging to brackish water don't want to go full marine again did that for four years not going their again .

Puffers are extremely messy, the create tonnes of waste. You are quite limited in a tank that size but there are a couple of options. Firstly dwarf puffers, small but bursting with personality, you could have 2 or 3. Don't let their small size fool you they are really mean. They are fresh water and require 5 usg each. There is a brackish option, the figure 8 puffer. A sg of 1.003-1.005 is required and 15 usg per fish. You have some excellent fish shops fairly close to you so getting these should be easy. Both readily available in the uk. Be warned, puffers are addictive and you will soon fill your house with tanks! Start searching for a 120+ g tank because you are guaranteed to see a fahaka when out puffer shopping and you will fall in love lol.

If you go with multiple dwarf puffers, you will need to sex them, as males will fight to the death.

Cheers for the replies looking as a start up letting myself in gently and will change the tank within the next couple of months
Thinking figure of eight would be good or juvenile green spot then when change tank go to brackish
Am I right in thinking gsp as they mature require brackish water

Gsp are better in full marine conditions. If you are trying not to go down that path I would take them off your short list. A f8 would be more suitable for your needs

Wildwoods aquatics is not a great distance from yourself, maidenhead aquatics have them from time to time but I don't rate them that much anymore. Have a phone round your local shops and see if they have them instock or perhaps on order. Look for one with a rounded tummy and intact fins.

F-8s are still very high on my list of favorite puffers. They are highly active and quite easy to care for. They are also very responsive to their owners.
