My LFS said I should get 2. They haven't given me any reliable advice. I'm happy to have found this place. And sorry to have learned the hard way. I don't wanna lose anymore.

There is no such thing as a school of 2 fish. But too many LFS people have never seen fish in the wild, and few have been to the tropics. Wild schools can be many hundreds to thousands of fish. Some years back, Pufferpunk shared a great shot of a human sand walking neck-deep in a lagoon or shallow area, with a cylindrical school of many thousands of fish arcing around the human and stretching from one edge of the shot to the other. Even FW schools of fish can be thousands of individual fish. We don't have the room to do that in most tanks, but schools still do require numbers, not just a handful. Schools can confuse predators, which is their survival value.

Some of us are guilty of calling what manyLFS suggest as "Noah's Ark Tanks": all the fish, 2 by 2...

Definitely a winner! Thanks for bringing it out. Even if I remembered it imperfectly, it does show a real school on the move! Obviously that could confuse a predator. Thanks again!
