Pignosed puffers?

Post by EvilE »

A LFS had 2 pignosed puffers for sale for $20 each--I've never seen one of those before! They are cool looking!! Anyone know anything about them? He said they are freshwater puffers. He also had 2 Fakaha puffers for $50 each--they were about 7-8" each, is that a good price for them?

ans yes, $50 is an ok price for a fahaka of that size, particularly if it is healthy.

pig nose puffers seem to need a very specialized setup--deep sand etc. They are cool looking fish though!! Perhaps someday I will look into getting one.

Easier than keeping a fahaka!

Mine only requires enough sand to burry everything but his eyes. He's not quite 5 inches though. For some reason the ones that I have seen don't sleep in the sand. They seem to like sleeping on rocks.

My fahaka costed $90 and it was about 4 inches. Get the fahaka if you have a big enough tank.
Non-Puffer tanks:

75 gallon tall SA community tank
55 gallon CA cichlid tank.

My arrowhead only very rarely buries itself, instead preferring the cover of tiger lotus and crypts.

I recently discovered that it loves mussels. Never saw it go quite so crazy for food.

If there are any places that sell large live shrimp (asian markets are your best bet) look into getting a few. Suvattiis go crazy for live inverts.
