Brackish water preferred. Not sure of the SG though.
No heater really needed--room temp to tropical temps are OK (18-25 C).
Prefers soft, lightly acidic water (pH 5.8-6.5) but I wouldn't concern yourself too much with that, just use your tap water, treated with Prime.
Likes a bright tank.
Will not eat prepared foods: live/frozen (see articles on Feeding in our Library).
Prefers planted aquarium with rockwork & wood.
Grows to 30cm (12") & needs a large tank of at least 3000L (750g) & 400cm (13') long.

Oh yes, I saw a documentary about Australia having trouble with non native invasive species.

Ok so its a marilyna darwinii. that sounds a bit closer to home. well if that's a aussie then it must be that. thanks for the link i will have a read.

pc yer that might be true but i think that's because of how strict our quarantine laws are. i would love to get a green spotted puffer i think they look amazing.
for example i live in wa and i have a reptile license but that only lets me keep reptiles that are from west Australia. for some silly reason i cant own a green tree snake because they are not common over hear but they are in the east states like syd and qld. so i think that's why you find most aussies speaking about aussie fish hay. its a shame cos there are some really cool ones out there hay.

i will post a pic of my tank with my puffers in it soon i am just waiting on the tank to finish cycling through. say can you point me in the way of info about over-filtration?

Australia is the poster child for the results of unintended consequences from introduced species. You would think that the rest of us would have learned from their wonderfully clear ecologic disasters, but we have not. My own state (Maryland, on the East Coast of the US) pours millions into futile attempts to control introduced snakeheads from state waters before the destroy some of the state's best fisheries.
