hehe, thats what i did.

although i had 5 yrs of prior exp. with FW/BW.

SW is much tougher then FW/BW you have to carefully monitor all parameters, or disaster can strike! not to mention the expense. ( i have kind parents) i would not suggest starting out with SW, but if you must read a LOT about SW. i read a gargantuan amount about SW even with my prior experience, and im still learning about it.

I don't think I'd have to guts (or pocket book) to try SW yet. Starting with a nice planted FW community tank or species tank is definately the way to go if you're just starting out. Unless of course you have tons of time and money to dump into it, cause it's going to take loads of both.

hey, decided to give it a miss, really upset because i totally loved him

BUT

i love him enough not to put him at risk by buying him when i am so new to it all, it would be a total shame if he died, he truely is a gorgeous fish

just gonna go tropical now, marine is too hard lol

Good of you to rethink things and not buy on impulse. Down the road I think you'll be a great mum for a DFP.

hey i have been looking at other various puffers but a lot of them seem to sound quite aggressive, i would like a tank with variety

can you recommend any that are very community orientated? most arent compatible with the kuhli loach which i have set my sights on

i still go visit the little fella, he has been there for about 8 months, i dont think there are many mariners in my area lol

Well, puffers makes for poor community fish.
Anything sharing their tank can (and probably will) vanish mysteriously...
We recommend keeping puffers as singletons.

SAP's or the Carinotetraodons are best suited for a community tank,
but it really comes down to the individual puffer.
Even the more "peaceful" species has more than their share of serial-killers.

I seriously think you will not be disappointed in keeping any "pufferpuppy" in your tank, aggressive or not. The are not just fish, they are real pets!

thats one of the main reasons i like them, but as i said i am new to this AND i get very attached and would be gutted if a puffer nipped another fish's fins!

I guess i`ll just have to reside to the fact puffers are outta the question lol

any recommendations for a 50gallon?

i like (as stated above) kuhli loaches and mollies....
