Fahaka tank mate

Post by Pufferswanted »

I have 2 good sized plecos in a 55 right now and ive been looking into fahakas and i want to move one out

If i got a 125 and a fahaka when it was about 2.5", could they get along until the fahaka was a certain size?

It's always a toss up with a fahaka or any puffer for that matter.

They might, but I wouldn't keep a poop machine like a plec and a Fahaka in a 125 forever. Fahakas are incredibly aggressive, and only a very small percentage will allow anything in their tanks. NIMFT.

Fahakas have been known to bite plecos 1/2 their size, right in half! If you have a mean fahaka (99% of the time you will), then no tank mates at all--ever. I do have a fairly nice fahaka (did decide he just didn't like the 7" electric blue JD in his tank) & he lives w/many fish in a 125, including 2 plecos (1 is 12") & lots of other fish. He is picking off the tiger barbs though. I do weekly 75% water changes, have 3 AQ 500s & a Eheim 2217 on there.

Wow, heavy maintenance and filtration on that tank PP. How is the JD doing?

It's fins are growing back w/Melafiz. I am hoping to be rehoming my turgidus on Saturday (to a fellow TPF member), so I can move his modestus tankmate to the 20L. I'm afraid it could pick on the JD in his weakened state. His fins still look quite ragged but I'm seing a lighter color on the edges--assuming this is new growth...
