Coraline algae tips (on glass)

I have lots of coraline, purple algae on my LR, but also have it appearing on my glass. Is there anyway to diminish this? I really don't like having to scrape of off, as it means more often my arms are in the tank

It is calcium based.

I don't know how you could go about lowering the calcium to prevent coraline without taking away the calcium your corals need though.

Kinda glad mine hasn't spread too much. It can't be fun having to scrape it off the glass.

Front or back glass? All the SW hobbiests I know, always have a Magfloat sitting attached to the side of their tanks & use it daily on the front glass. This will prevent anything from growing there. It's up to you if you want to use it for the sides. If you let it go too long, you're going to have to use razor blades to remove the buildup. Most folks just let it grow across the back.

Thanks PP. I guess that is my first mistake. I don't use the magfloat daily, so I guess I better start that I do have one, but don't use it much

Got a six line wrasse and a dory tang today. I put in cyclops and the tang went crazy eating. Really surprised me, because she's been in the tank about 2 hours, and came right from being shipped to PetCo. I ordered her, and didn't have her (or the wrasse) go into their tanks They appear very healthy and active. The tang is a good 3+ inches in size.

The bad thing that happened today, is I took my galaxia ? coral out to glue him to a rock, and I dropped him on the hard floor. Poor thing must have a headache, but is slowly opening again. I had to move it, because it's tentacles were touching my purple montipora, looking for food. I feel so bad I dropped it.

I didn't know just using the magfloat on a regular basis could help with preventing coraline. I just thought it'd starting growing there and a razor would have to be used to remove it. Good to know!

Don't the 'Dory' tangs need a larger tank?

I could have sworn they did because I dismissed one because of my tank size. Seems most people are crazy for tangs but thats really the only one I even care for.

Oh, and I hope your coral is okay.

The galaxea corals are so pretty! I've kinda stayed away from them because it seems they're pretty aggressive. Guess that all comes down to placement though.

Yep, Dory will grow to 18". Minimum tank size is 90g.

Oops, just saw your reply. My tank is 75 gallons, and I realize that one day I'll have to re-home Dori. I'm hoping I will have her for awhile until that happens. Great fish! I'm aware how long the Galaxia's sweepers can go, because I had to move it when one of the sweepers were touching my monti leather. He is now in a place that he can't get to other corals. I really like this coral also.

Oh, and yes the Galaxia is okay Took him a few days after the "ordeal" but he's back to normal.

In order to get rid of this type algae, there is need of water change and vacuuming of tank.
As the regularly water change is very important to avoid any algae in the tank.
