Marine tank no sump?

Coolio, I hope that algae is nice looking or I may get upset with it lol. Tube worms are friggin awesome. What depth substrate is best? Can I steal errrr, does sand from the beach make suitable substrate? I have she'd loads of "ocean rock" in a box can I add this too? Million questions or what lol

Lots of cool life growing in our tanks! Those are tube worms.

I don't feel like I got much life at all with my live rock.

I have yet to see any sort of pods, worms, stars, etc.

The tube worms are a neat hitchhiker, feather dusters seem pretty common too.

It's half 1 in the morning here, not much a fan of sleeping. I will be sat here with my flashlight checking every nook and cranny for life lol. Watching my sap sleeping ATM he is hilarious

I am definitely more of a night person, getting off work at midnight doesn't exactly help though. But I'm usually up with my daughter on top of it.

I've checked my tank numerous times, with flashlights and all. Every nook and cranny at that. No real luck so far

Just sponge, scallop, and some sort of macroalgae. Nothing too exciting and none was hiding

How does he sleep?

My solandri sleeps vertical up against some live rock, odd.

Yea I finish work at midnight too, after lots of lifting blah blah I am pumped by the time I get home I am lucky if I get to sleep for 3am. Then up at 7 am to sort my princess out for school, hour nap in school yime waffle waffle blah blah. He sleeps near the surface and drifts round in the current, first few times I saw it I thought he was dead, he swims down when he bumps into something only to float back up. It's so comical to watch, why not sleep in low current areas of the tank? I guess he's not a sleeper either lol

Thats how I am, I'm too wound up when I get home and couldn't sleep even if I had the chance to lay straight down. Its when I do most of my maintenance on the tank

Lol. You're sleeping habits, or lack there of, have rubbed off on your puffer! That would be funny to see, not the first time, I'd have thought the worst too.

So back on subject...

Had you had any thoughts yet on what you're wanting to stock in your new tank?

I definitely look forward to seeing the progression of your tank build and what your stocking plans will be. I believe you mentioned an Angel of some sort (I want to say Flame).

Where did your LR come from? When you get hooked up with some local reefers, get some handfuls of their sand.

The first 50lbs of rock is Fiji and it came from a store off of Ebay, for a good price.

I kept checking Macrorocks and they never had anymore live rock in stock.

The second 10lbs of rock was a mix and came from a different store on Ebay, wanted some variety. I did see more on this rock as this rock is the rock I cured in the bucket before placing in my tank. The picture I posted checking the id of the scallop and sponge was from this batch.

It just seem almost everyone has pods, bristle worms, stars, and numerous other hitchhikers while I haven't seen anything of the sort. Now the 10lbs pounds of mixed rock hasn't been in tank long though.

I do have some coraline growth and did have some macroalgae hitchhike on the first batch of rock, (Neomeris annulata). Everything I had read said nothing ate it but something sure did in my tank, not sure what though. Only had a few sprouts.

It was definitely live.

It was still damp when it arrived but I could still smell some die off. Also, the 50lbs cycled my tank and the 10lbs took about a month to cure in the 5 gallon bucket.

It was mainly just the blenny in the tank for the longest time with the rock and pretty certain he wouldn't be eating any hitchhikers of any sorts.

I'm sure the wrasse would eat some but he hasn't been in there long.

This might sound silly, can you mix the different types of live rock?

Sweet, I thought so but wanted to check. They all look awesome and want a bit of everything. I can get what I want for about £800 off eBay so all is good. Got about 65 kg of base rock here too. Still not 100% set on tank. Will be very low stock though. Still thinking the now front with much flow. My princesses hamster died today which is a shock cos the last one spent over 3 years with us and this one didn't last a year, she wants a goldfish ( she has for a while) so disco gravel is to be purchased lol and bright decor. I was supposed to be running down on tanks lol. Some fish have to go now I am not gonna start a new tank so there we go ( not allowed gotta run down but this is an exception lol) so the mixed school of rasporas are going, there's like 30 of them now and that's the only sacrifice I will make. So that leaves me with incompatable fish darn it, we'll I guess the gold fish will be a new set up then cos the marine tank is a defo. Woohoo the rasporas stay. Sorry guys was typing as the conversation rolled lol
