Green Spotted Puffer Dead!

Hello, I don't know why my GSP died today!
All water parameters were good, even the salt density!
Two days ago I put AntiRed in the Aquarium due to Red Algae, afterwards I a part of the water and removed the dead red algae.

Today the fish was spinning around in the water, it seemed pretty weak and didn't want to eat.
Let's say it looked disorientated.

Was it sick? What could've caused it because it never looked sick before!

Do you have water test kits, and if so did you run any tests? Please tell us what the usual water parameters were in the tank.

I do not know what "AntiRed" is. What are the ingredients? Are there any warnings or restrictions on the container?

I would suspect toxicity killed your GSP. Some algaes are toxic in and of themselves. Many are toxic if killed in mass in a tank and removed quickly

When treating an algae overgrowth, it is generally best to physically remove as much as possible, then treat any remaining and get that residue out of the tank as quickly as possible.

Sorry you lost it. I would also guess poisoning by either the meds or the algae. It's always best to find the root cause of the algae instead of just treating, once the root cause is dealt with you can remove as much as possible by hand and the rest will fade out

I'm sorry you lost your friend. I'm glad you found us now, so we can better instruct you on their care.

A couple of things: 1st of all, puffers are very sensitive to chemicals added to their system. Finding the cause of the problem & removing it by hand 1st, is always the best route to try 1st.

2nd: When killing off red algae (cyanobacteria), it will release a toxin & also cause the nitrate to rocket. Didn't the instructions that came with that stuff say to do a WC the next day? Did you do that?

The instructions said nothing about a water change, however I did one (about 20%) but after 2 days, however he was fine afterwards.

I needed to use the chemicals, I tried to remove the algae by hand, I even turned the light out afterwards for a few hours, however they all grew back.

At least I learned something from my mistakes...at least it won't happen again!

What were your parameters? Algae growth has to be fed by something...
In my reef tank, I have used Chemiclean with good success, after removing all the cyano I can see. WC are a MUST after using these products.
