Dumb question-apologize if I sound ignorant....

Post by supgirl »

So I just received a new Aquaclear 110 filter for my 75g puffer tank. My tanks has only been running for almost 3 weeks and my water parameters are as follows:
Hi PH - 8.2
Ammonia - 0
N02 - 0
N03 - 5.0
Salinity - 116
Do I hang the new filter on the tank and keep the older one (also 3 weeks old) on this tank for a period of time, or pull out the cartridges and stick in the new filter with the current new filters or just hand the new one, remove the old one and not worry about it?
Thanks again for the advice!

I'd leave the old filter on there for a month, especially since the tank is so new.

Salinity 116? 1.016 maybe? I'm not too sure what you mean there.

That is likely a typo, I would just leave both on until you are at a place to live rock that tank up. Just a mention of a multifiltered tank make me weak at the knees, hmmmmmm lol
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Thanks Bertie! Yes, I meant salinity 1.016  (always was bad with the Dewey Decimal System). I will go ahead hang this new baby on the tank. Now my biggest obstacle is figuring out how to squeeze 2 HOB filters, a thermometer and a protein skimmer on this tank.

Make sure that lid stays tight, they can jump! I once heard of a fahaka jumping over 15 feet and landing behind a couch!

Lol. It may be tight to squeeze but its worth it. Once you get up to a live rock salinity you can grab a load cure it an rid those filters, just Plop in some powerheads you are sorted
