Is this a F8 puffer?

This was sold to me as a figure 8 but I had one before and it looked nothing like this. The green on this one is shiny. He eats feeder fish as you can tell. He is beautiful that's why I bought it but I want to make sure I am taking proper care of him. I would say he is maybe 2.5 inches. The only thing that makes me think he is a figure 8 is the black spot by the tail.

Yes, he is a figure 8. Their patterns can vary, but I can see why you asked because he is a bit unique looking.

Get him off of those feeder fish as they are not the best choice for him.

I don't feed it feeder fish all the time I just have other things that eat them and every once in a whole he gets him one. I feed them a huge variety of stuff. Frozen blood worms, frozen krill, frozen squid, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen beef heart, live crickets every once in a while, frozen brine shrimp, live plant snails, and live ghost shrimp. I think that's it. I feed them well and try all kinds of stuff to see if they like it.

There is absolutely NEVER a reason to feed live fish to anything.

He needs more crunch in his diet. Start breeding ramshorn snails, it's super easy and very helpful.

Considering that fish eat smaller fish all the time I would see that as a normal diet to some fish. Do you think that my puffer would never encounter a smaller fish in the wild? If he attacks and eats it I assume he likes it. Not sure why you would think that to be a bad thing.

And for the more mature post... Yes I have a freshwater 10gal with nothing but snails in it. All kinds. Plant snails, rams horn snails, and some unicorn snails. They just haven't started breeding enough to populate quick enough yet. But until then I buy a bunch about every 2 weeks and feed them to the puffer as needed.

Thank you for some helpful info instead of just saying never feed them them fish. That makes more sense. And I feed them a ton of snails believe me.
