Considering it is so easy to feed them foods from the fish section of the grocery store, why bother?

Everything here has been steamed/cooked. Supposedly because most people are clueless on easy it goes bad and how to prepare raw fishfood. At least in the grocery store/super market. It's rare to find butchers/green grocers/fish guy seperate here. I have heard there is a fish guy (whatever this is called :D) nearby, wonder if he sells raw.

Try Sam's Club or Costco.

Tim, same here. our desert environment makes raw seafood not so fresh cause of where we have to get it. most grocery stores wont carry it cause the people dont want to pay the mark up it costs tocover the transportation fees to get it here. you will find some frozen raw fish but its the cheaper kind, other than that its pre packaged, cooked seafood. on the rare occassion we do get crab legs here.

p.p. i will check costco. never thought to check there.

I didn't know there were places in the U.S. where you couldn't get uncooked seafood. I'll never leave the coast.

there are places here but you have to look good for them and then you get marked up on it along with it being about 3-5 days old fresh... Arizona is not the greatest place if you love fresh seafood. even at red lobster the tanks are rarely stocked full with lobsters.

I sometimes have trouble, but I often find great deals on seafood at Hispanic markets around here. They also have good deals on produce for my rabbit.

I also find good seafood at high end grocery stores. I think their average customer has a high average income so they are willing to carry seafood with mark ups.

I do marbled crayfish and mystery snails, although they are not a staple since he got big, they don't breed fast enough. I have been trying to find the columbian ramshorns, can't find them anymore since they banned transporting them across state lines, not illegal to have just can't bring them in and most people consider them a nuisance in tanks.

One lateral approach is to find a good sea food/ethnic/Japanese/sushi restaurant and ask for their supplier.. here in Quebec we found several wholesalers who supply the restaurant trade but also are prepared to sell to the public... we have great bouillabaisse ingredients and the fish are happy too...

Marmorkrebs or marbled crayfish as they are also called. They will do well in a 50gal and in about 3 to 4 months, you will have a renewing supply of food that Fahakas love. All marmorkrebs are female and you dont need to worry about mating as they are self cloning crayfish. Once they have matured, they just start to produce young.
