Dwarf Puffers, are they tank bred or wild?

Post by jeromecarlyoung »

Hi,
Just wondering if Dwarf Puffers were wild caught or Tank Bred fish or a mixture of both?
Most seem like juvenile when seen in Aquarists?

Any help would be great.

Thanks Jerry :D

Hi Jerry. :) My understanding is that the majority of DPs in the aquarium trade today are tank-bred. DPs have really only been on the scene as aquarium fish in the U.S. since the early to mid-1990s, when most, if not all, were wild caught. But as more knowledge was uncovered about these little puffers, the ease of breeding them on a mass scale became understood, and tank-bred is the norm now.
Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

I also am sure they are now commercially bred
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
