Silly GSP

Post by sgtmyers88 »

Well as the title says one of my GSP's can be quite silly as he likes to sift thru the sand, but apparently he likes to also give himself a sand bath as well. (the substrate is a very fine aragonite sand/crushed coral blend)

One morning it shocked me to see him covered in white specks thinking he had contracted a severe outbreak of ich from top to bottom but as he started to swim around the white specks started to drop off in a little trail (like exhaust fumes or severe dandruff lol) and he started to burp the stuff constantly. Another instance occurred when I noticed a lot of sand was coating the live rock and other decor throughout the tank and then that's when he rose up from behind a piece of live rock and slowly drifted towards me at the glass when he spontaneously burped out a big cloud of the sand right in front of me! Crazy huh?

This is why puffers are so loveable! They have such funny personalities! I never thought non-mammalian animals had much personality until I found puffers lol.

Okay the weirdest thing just happened, my smallest GSP was pacing the glass in front of me (assuming it was about to get something to eat no doubt) when he spontaneously stopped fluttering his fins, curled into a ball, and wobbled to the bottom bumping into a plastic plant and a rock on the way down with no reaction. I didn't know what to make of it so I stuck my hand in the tank and got close to him to stimulate a response when he suddenly uncurled and darted away. What the heck was that all about?

How could he be sleeping, if the second before he was at the glass? Sounds like you have 2 puffers who are trying to get a reaction out of you :) Comedians!

Strange, but they sound very cute! Yours looks just like mine, but fatter! :D Did you just feed them when you took that picture, or is he always that large in the tummy?

The puffer in the OP was getting a little fat but has shrunk up a bit since those pics were taken. However it does seem apparent that I have comical attention seeking puffers as one of them was under that rock pictured above this morning and I witnessed a rare event that I have never seen any of them do before. He looked at me, swam out to look at the surface to see if there was food present, and then quickly swam back under the rock and PUFFED! I tried to grab my camera off the desk but it was too late and he unpuffed and sat on the bottom of the tank under the rock and glared at me. Who knew fish could pout?

Here is an update to the goofy GSP that likes to randomly curl up into a ball. He would drift around and somehow swim around the tank like that.
I managed to get a pic:

My 4 inch Green Spotted Puffer (same as in the OP) managed to wedge himself into this impression in the live rock and actually sleeps there!
I dunno how he finds this spot comfortable. Silly puffer.
