Another tank project

Post by boosted23 »

Well folks, i was on the hunt for a stand for my 55gallon aquarium to put my dinosaur birchir, 2 red tail sharks and a sucker
. All overgrown and all fat. lol. Their 36 gallon bowfront is getting too small.

Upon the search for the stand i had come across an ad for a complete 55 gallon setup for $100. I went to look at it and found that it was a saltwater setup that has a cascade 1200 canister filter, jager and an aqueon water heaters, a circulation fan, hood light and some other stuff. For $100 i said sold!!! lol. The tank is being stored for backup or sold cause i have a brand new black trim 55 gallon i am gonna use. The color of the stand is once again.. not for me, so now i am stripping the coating and stain off of it to restain it the same color as my other. Igotta clean all the salt off the equipment and get it fresh water ready. This is gonna be another fun project. I also gotta figure out how i wanna set this one up and if i am gonna add more fish.

this is what it looks like now as i bought it.

This is the doors sanded. I need to get a rougher grit sandpaper for my orbital sander cause 100 grit is gonna take awhile.

Be sure to give the sharks different hiding holes on opposite sides of the tank. They need that tank for themselves, IME one will terrorize the other one in a tank that size with no end in sight. Now I wont even put a second in my 135 gallon, they are so territoritorial with like species or smaller fish eniterly. I found success with one one tank mate for my fahaka...thats my shark (rainbow ..same thing) im not guarant. Sucess but sharks arent dumb, and arent arent slow either so its almost perfect for a fahaka IMO and IME although I wont make any promises.....and congrats on your continued hobby

Ps sorry for typos on my phone

hahaha that is true about the sharks. In my 36 the bigger one always chases the little one around. He doesnt do it alot now cause of how fat they have gotten. One rests behind my hob filter almost allday and the other one lays in the tree decoration i have. they only chase when its feeding time now.

Thanks for the compliment. I will prolly get one for the fahaka tank when he is better for sure. i have been reading that they are good algae eaters and it will help with my algae control.

Wc and limited lighting will go much farther with algae than any algae eater will...although I guess it helps too. I dont get annoying algae anymore with that process...although sharks do eat algae, to me the greates benefit to my fahaka tank is that he will eat ALL of ane lefover food scattered across the subtrate...they eat meat too so jts a win win

first coat of staining done. looks like this stand will only need 2 coats. After that, the polyeurathane coats. When that is applied it really brings out the red in the stain instead of looking crappy brown.

all done and running. i put my african birchir, 2 redtail sharks, and chinese algae eater in there. using a cascade 1200 canister filter along with my established hob filter from their original tank. Now that they have settled down from being moved, they are really enjoying the extra swim room now. the redtails LOVE it!!! lol

Did you move their filter over to that tank?
