Colomesus asellus - substrate and others

Newly found this forum and hope to learn a lot from everyone here.

I'm buying 2 Colomesus asellus and want to know what is the best substrate for him?
Black or white?

I have sand "black blue MBreda" into another aquarium. I am in doubt whether I use it or dolomite or other?
Anyway, what's the best choice?


Plants? I put some? What he will not chew like a Swiss cheese?

Regular gravel is fine, sand is not necessary. How large is your tank?
They do best in groups of 3 or more--a 55g minimum, would be best. Plants are great.

My tank has 84 liters - 70x30x40.
EHEIM ecco pro filter with 2234

I'm thinking about putting 2 fishes.

And about lighting: low to average?

Hi and welcome to the forum, I think saps would prefer a bigger area to swim in, they are incredibly active

To answer your question, white sand looks dirty after a while. If your meant to say light brown, then yes it would look better than black sand IMO. I have black sand. It makes my tank look very dark. I'm going to change it next year after I'm finish building my other tank.
