Puffer Fish Ill

Read this before posting!!
Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Puffer Fish Ill
Hi I have a 4 inch Stars and Stripes puffer in a 100g tank. A few weeks ago he got white spot. I treated him with Pimafix (this was provided to me by lfs and I was apprehensive about it working from the off but thought I'd give it a go). He seemed fine, he was eating and was interactive and lively. Then last weekend it came back. This time I decided to use copper, the white spot has now completely cleared up, but Mr Puff is not happy at all. I've done several small water changes over the past few days, but he will not eat, and he just stays hidden all day long. I've tested my water for nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and checked the ph and salinity and the ph was low 7.7. Now though he is slamming his body into the sand??? I'm really worried.

Wow a senior member will assist you in due time, do you have the other results of the nitrates nitrites and amonia? Thst would really help...try soaking your food in garlic to entice him to eat in the meantime

Copper based treatments are never a good idea. Do a few large waterchanges over the next couple of days.

You treated the display tank with copper??? Really bad move, you have wiped out ALL life in there. Copper is extremely toxic to puffers, especially their skin. Do an 80% WC & add fresh carbon to a HOB filter. Add Bio-Spira to the tank.

Sorry to hear this , but as i know how to solve the white spot, high up to degree to 30'C ,three days , then it would be cured .
then i am thinking about to provide a better environment for him to self-healing ~ wish ur puffer have a good body ~

Raised temperature only speeds up the life cycle of this parasite, it does not cure it.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

I took all my live rock and coral out before I put the copper in, and I'm not putting it back in till I remove all traces of it. Anyway yesterday I did a massive water change and sorted out my ph levels and today he seems loads better. Thanks guys xx

After speeding up the temperature ~ the spot will drop down from the fish ~ then i change the water ~ then it cure ~ oh .... how lucky am i ~

Maybe it could have been the translator? @OP Glad your puffer is doing better. I have heard a few horror stories about using copper which did not end as well. Never use that stuff again unless you plan to nuke the tank after evacuating your rock and livestock. I remember back in the day they said to use bleach to nuke a tank. lol

That's not even the cure for FW ich.
After using copper in a display tank, you might as well start over with a new tank, sand, rock, etc. ONLY to be used in a BARE QT.
