Target Puffers

I've noticed not a lot of posts on this type of puffer.
I'm wondering why?
Is there some reason no one seems to have them? Are they ugly or not active or just bury themselves and chill all day or skittish or something?

I wanted F8's but after the expense of getting Aragonite to replace my sand and a new filter and salt and all the extra hassle I figure I'll go fresh water instead.
I have a 40Gal tank.

The Target family of puffs are great. I've had several varieties...some are more active than others....most tend to be lurkers and have to be singletons.

I don't think as a family - the Target puffers are very common in the LFS. I see one kind or another 1 or 2 times per year. Perhaps that is why not alot of threads are about them.

I've wanted to ask this for a while, is my T. Abei part of the target puffer family, it has all the characteristics and appearance of one.

Pure evil in a small puffer package.

Am I correct in my assumption or way off target.(excuse the pun)

There is a puffer called the "Target" puffer, T leiurus--rarely found in the aquarium trade. I've seen them 1x in the past 15 years. There were 3 of them housed in a 15g at my LFS & they ate each other.

Lately I"ve been seeing "Red-Eye" puffers everywhere. They're all some sort of target puffer. Some have the black spot near the tail, some the red. But they are always kept in one tank and have a bunch of bite marks out of them.
I keep hoping, though, that someday I"ll look and they'll be red-eye red-tail puffers (C. Irrubesco) as I"ve been looking for them for awhile.

Come to maryland with a bucket, battery airstone, pima/melafix and pick some up. They seem to be pretty easy to find here, finally!

Got a pair today and they are happy with the lortetis due to there being enough blind lines of sight.

I'm afraid they will eventually (if not soon) be killing your other puffers.

Not even looking at each other. Each have claimed their territory and none venture in one anothers for long. The tank is densely planted and covered with bogwood (I need to clean it up as with the rest of the tanks before I post some pics.)

IMO T. abei is a target puffer indeed.
Nasty disposition...

I believe that RTR once commented (audibly sighing) that another addition to the target group is just what we needed to make chaos complete.

Anyone seen a T. hilgendorfii or T. cambodgiensis around?

Other Targets are T. turgidus, T. cochinchinensis and T. leirus.
