This is selling at my LFS.. Its labelled as a " golden spotted puffer", not that it matters as they are almost wrong most of the time..
Its in FW. The closest match I can find is Stars & Stripes which is SW.. But I cant really see the stripes at the belly, it has bright yellow spots(almost golden).. there are some irregular white spots near its tail and there some kind of yellow band between its eye( much like a turg). Its at ard 4in and as u can see..Its in terrible shape.

Re: ID needed
The milk spotted puffer have quite distinct black band on the back and the spots are pretty much white. The body shape is more like a fugu. But to me this look more like a Ceylon with all the colors inverted...

Re: ID needed
I can see two black bands, very faint just reminds me of msp. However it is in such bad shape it probably looks nothing like what it is supposed to....heck those spots might be purple if he felt good.
You thinking of buying? I think I would nab him up.

Re: ID needed
lol.. Atm I not even sure if it SW or FW.. No space to support another large tank as well. If its SW, I will be in for a heck of a wild ride as I have zero experience in SW setup.. cant afford the initial set up cost either. lol...

Re: ID needed
So, any idea if this a a FW, BW or SW? In that thread the OP started the title as BW but his friend caught them in FW. Any kind of reccomendation in your profession opinion?

Re: ID needed
I'd treat it as SW. It looks very poorly though.

Re: ID needed
Treat it like SW. It's closely related to what is called milkspotted puffer in trade. The taxonomy of the genus Chelonodon is a little messed up, so I'd call it Chelonodon 'golden spot' until it is resolved and proper species names can be used with less confusion.
