My GSPs

Post by purplecandle »

Finally figured out how to take pics with my tablet, so of course I had to take pics of my 2 GSPs! They are not great pics but thought I would share any way...you know something to do on a boring Saturday afternoon.

I have had them since mid 2010, they were about an inch long when I got them. Right now they are appox. 5-6 inches, probably just a smidge over 6 inches with the tail.........and of course one is fatter than the other :D . In the last pic he had just ate a mussel so he really looks fat!

Mine are in a 55g tank and I have only had them for 10 months. One seems to be stuck at 2.5 inches while another quickly grew from 1.25 inches to 3.75 inches.

It is probably just a genetic thing. Some are slow growers while others are not. I also think they may grow in spurts, not as predictable as fahaka growth. Give the little guy some time, he may be one of those that grows out his belly and then grows longer.

Cute! So interesting how differently yours are marked from mine. Did I read somewhere that certain markings on GSP tend to grow at different rates or even different sizes? I think it was in a post about growth rate of GSP's.

Yeah there are lots of threads on here about that, and I probably started a few of those threads. I think there is some validity to the arguement but in the end we just dont know.

Yeah I have contributed to that discussion. And yes the one GSP that quickly outgrew its larger tankmate has larger spots than the other one who seems to be stuck.

LOL , required more luck than skill to grow them out. I was able to grow a few more out before I rehomed them and luck certainly played a role.

That was one of the few pics I got were the puffers wanted a closer look at the tablet. All the pther pics the puffers wanted nothing to do with the rectangle light box that mom was pushing up against the glass.
