Hi there! :-)
Hello everyone, I'm a newbie from San Antonio, tx. I own two green spotted puffers I bought from walmart about 2 months ago, Del Mar Puff & Sprinkles. I have learned a lot about themin these past few months just from doing research on the internet and help from the aquarist at work (I work at sea world). we have been through some rough patches, but they are both fine and dandy now. I currently have them in a 10gal tank that I started with, but waiting for my new 35gal to cycle with the new sand. I will be moving them to their new temporary home next weekend. So excited about it! I hope to meet a lot of new friends along the way in my learning process!

Re: Hi there! :-)
Welcome! And you "rescued" them from Walmart. So sad they are still selling them. You'll find out soon, that 35 gallons won't be big enough for 2 GSP's before long!

Welcome
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Re: Hi there! :-)
I sure do. Like I said, "temporary". My neighbor had it sitting outside in the lawn half full of water that had probably been sitting there for a year or more. So I offered her free seaworld tickets for it, came with the tank, stand and everything! When I originally purchased my puffers I had no idea what I was getting in to. I just figured they were freshwater fish, turns out they werent....... But I am bound and determined to take care of my little guys in the best way possible! I am already looking for a bigger tank to move them to.

Re: Hi there! :-)
Welcome! A 55-75 gallon tank in marine conditions would be perfect for them! Mine are Walmart puffers too. Feel free to check out my threads with my marine GSPs to see what I mean.

I think 90% of our posters are here because of Walmart GSPs!

Re: Hi there! :-)
To answer your question Gwen, I am a Maintanence Diver for SeaWorld. I SCUBA dive and clean all of the saltwater tanks, exibits, pools, ect.(Hence my signature, 'OXYGEN, my choice of drug) I very much enjoy my job, though it is a lot of work.
The pools and exibits I clean that they do not seperate the animals from us are the dolphins, penguins, stingrays, puffins & murrs, everything else they seperate. But that still doesnt stop me from petting the beluga whales on occasion.
Working for SeaWorld actually got me interested in having my own aqauarium.

Re: Hi there! :-)
I wanna cry everytime I walk by the puffers in my walmart. They look so sad and they're bellies are caving in from being underfed and/or having parasites.

Re: Hi there! :-)
Bonjour et beinvenue delmar.
Thankfully my local WM doesn't sell puffers otherwise my basement would be one large tank.I've done puffer rescue in the past, it's bad how many peole really don't know how to take care of fish properly.
The fry now know my whole speech as to why people shouldn't keep bettas in small cups or bowls without aeration or filtration...in both English and French.

Re: Hi there! :-)
I actually considered getting a second job at walmart just to take care of the fish and puffers. I complained one time about how horrible the tanks were to a manager, told her that all of her fish were slowing dying in their own ammonia. Half the filters in the tanks weren't even working, dead fish everywhere and you couldnt even see in 3 of them due to the alge build up on all the glass. Needless to say I guess I made an impact on him because two days later all the filters were working, no dead fish, and the tanks were sparkling clean.
